Burnout velvet is made by dissolving away the pile in a chemical pattern leaving plush velvet on one side of the design and a semi-transparent chiffon on the other.

Two textiles live inside the same cloth. The result is a garment that feels weighted and airy at once plush enough to drape, porous enough to breathe.

The Maker

Nick, at the table.

Every bolt of burnout velvet is cut in the same California studio. Nick lays out the pattern by hand, matches the repeat at the seam, and only then does the fabric leave the table.
